So I just got back from The Colony animal control to go look at a GSD named Hans. So I get there at 1230 and they open the door at 1000. Hans was going to become available today. I get there and he is already gone. A gal named Denise(sp?)from Camp Wolfgang had already picked him up. He was not on any kill / euthanasia list. He could have been there a week with no problem. The adoption fee is $20 at the animal control place. If you go to Camp Wolfgang in Ennis Texas, you HAVE to shell out $300.00 to adopt a shell shocked Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome Shepherd that has been more than likely piled in a small kennel with 3 or more other dogs up to their elbows in fecal matter.
I went to Camp Wolfgang once.. I will never go back. I wish I would have taken pictures. All the dogs down there are damaged goods. Over half of the 160 or so have diarrhea. There are several dogs per kennel. The smell of dog crap is overwhelming. My heart goes out to all the GSD's in that place. I played with 2 of them for a while and determined that they had no use for humans whatsoever. Some of the dogs down there are not adoptable due to behavior issues. They will live out there lives in a kennel.
Camp Wolfgang needs 8 more staffers and 300 more acres. Wally's heart is in the right place. God knows that if I never marry, I would leave all my money to found a place called "The Urish home For Wayward German Shepherds". I love the breed that much. It's just that the final product out there needs improvement. |
